Baby Feet

Dr. Holdren Otis

A child’s foot can be very fascinating. We identify the child in the hospital by their foot print on their birth certificate. Who doesn’t like to check out a newborn baby’s feet? The small toes and even smaller nails are cute! Babies are usually born with flat feet and with time and walking, the foot will gain shape and the arch will form. Some children do not form an arch which can be normal and non painful. Other times the flat foot can affect their activities and a custom orthotic is needed. The orthotic is casted for the child’s foot so it fits perfectly and allows the foot to function in a more normal way. Things to watch out for if you are concerned include; if the child refuses to walk or play with other children, if they refuse to let you see their feet or if they can’t keep up with the others. Something we may not think of right away but is a common problem in children is the ingrowing nail. The wide nail may be something that they are born with and a minor procedure can be done so that it is not a recurring problem in the future. At Fenton Footcare, our doctors are able to answer your questions about your childs feet. Call today for an appointment!
